The DX Flagpole on Ham Talk Live, Episode 188: “Stealth Antennas and HOAs”

In Episode 188 of Ham Talk Live, Neil interviews John, W6NBC — retired NBC broadcast engineer and QST antenna award recipient — about antennas for restricted neighborhoods, including the Greyline DX Flagpole, and about working with HOAs. To listen, search your podcast app or the Ham Talk Live archive for Episode 188.

A related piece of history: Greyline worked with the ham radio steering committee at the Sun City, Arizona community during the talks that produced its outdoor antenna guidelines — ARRL coverage of the agreement. It was big news then, and it still is a model for how hams and boards can find common ground.

What customers were saying:

“So pretty my DX Flagpole Antenna is allowed in my wife’s garden! In the GARDEN!”
“4 Band DXCC this summer with my 20’ DX Flagpole from my HOA!”

Today’s Greyline: every band, 160 through 6 meters, from one feedpoint with a tuner; no radials, no guy wires; the pole itself is the antenna. Antennas ship within days, free to the USA and Canada.

  • Hi Dan,
There is no difference in performance. The DX Flagpole has a few extra holes and hardware to allow it to become a Flagpole and DX Flagpole vertical antenna. Ham Radio is fun again! 73 Greyline DX

  • Other than the flag capability, is there a difference between the flagpole version and the antenna.
