The Greyline Standard

Our Story & Mission

Greyline Performance was built on a single premise: there should be an antenna that performs like a serious HF station, installs without a ground system, looks like a premium residential flagpole, and lasts decades. That antenna is the DX Series VDA. Made in Sun Valley, Idaho.

The Mission

Get Ham Radio Operators Back on the Air

The single biggest obstacle keeping licensed operators off the air is installation. HOA restrictions. Yard limitations. XYL concerns about aesthetics. The radial field that requires 50 yards of trenching. Greyline exists to solve every one of those problems with a single product.

A decade of operators running DX, POTA, EmComm, and contest operations from homes their neighbors think just have very nice flagpoles. That’s the mission in practice.

Design Philosophy

Smart, Strong, Elegant

Smart

OCF Vertical Dipole physics. No radials. 160 through 6 meters from a single feedpoint. Every claim survives first-principles analysis from Maxwell through Zavrel.

Strong

Heavy-wall 6061-T6 aluminum. 316 marine-grade stainless hardware. ASCE 7-10 wind load engineering. Built to the same specification as US embassy and commercial flagpole installations.

Elegant

Architecturally indistinguishable from a premium residential flagpole. Flies a full-size American flag. The antenna function is entirely internal. Neighbors compliment the installation.

The Physics Standard

The Bob Test

Every technical claim Greyline makes must survive a simple question: would Robert J. Zavrel W7SX state this in Antenna Physics: An Introduction? Does it hold up under Maxwell’s equations, Hertz’s field theory, Kraus’s antenna analysis, and Zavrel’s rigorous treatment of vertical antenna physics?

This isn’t an academic exercise — it’s the standard that keeps our marketing honest and our engineering credible. When we say the VDA significantly reduces ground coupling by routing return current through the lower element rather than through a buried radial field, that’s a first-principles statement, not a marketing claim.

Who We Serve

Ham Radio Operators Nationwide

Our core customer is the licensed amateur radio operator who wants to get on the air and stay there — HOA or no HOA, large lot or small, suburban or urban. We also serve government agencies, state EOCs, defense contractors, and emergency management organizations who need HF infrastructure that deploys on any surface without a ground system.

Every operator, every application, same physics. Same standard. Same guarantee.
