A Physicist's Answer to a DXer's Problem.

How do you significantly reduce ground coupling — the single largest source of loss in a vertical antenna system — without burying a radial field across your yard? You feed the radiator off-center, elevate the feedpoint, and position the current maximum above the lossy near-field ground. That is the OCF Vertical Dipole Antenna. That is the DXV.

Balanced dipole feedpoint. Lower ground losses. Reduced noise floor. 160 meters through 6 meters from a single feedpoint — including the WARC bands and 6M sporadic-E. Heavy-wall 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum. 316 stainless hardware. ASCE 7-10 wind-rated, height-specific from 55 to 155 MPH.

All-band coverage is the headline. Adding the 9 ft DX Whip extends the upper radiator across every band the antenna covers, and each height happens to reach 5/8-wave resonance somewhere in the spectrum, where the published literature documents figures reaching 3.5 dBi over a quarter-wave reference at the optimum DX angle over average ground. That single-band peak is a detail, not the product. The product is one pole, every allocation.

Choose Your Vertical

Five core sizes from 12 ft through 28 ft — each covering 160 meters through 6 meters. No tuning at the antenna. No pruning. No radials. Add an ATU at the base or in the shack and you are on the air in under an hour. All five are free-standing; guying becomes a requirement at 32 feet and above, which is where the Experimental Line begins.

  • 12 ft DXV — Entry-level full-band coverage. Apartment rooftop, small lot, or portable base mount. Wind-rated to 155 MPH (ASCE 7-10).
  • 16 ft DXV — More aperture is more signal. The EmComm team's first step up from portable. Wind-rated to 115 MPH.
  • 20 ft DXV — Core performer. Small yard, suburban rooftop, or rapid-deploy EOC installation. Wind-rated to 90 MPH.
  • 24 ft DXV — EmComm standard. Embassy-class performance. Chosen by operators and agencies requiring permanent, high-reliability HF infrastructure. Wind-rated to 70 MPH.
  • 28 ft DXV — Maximum aperture in the standard line. EOC-grade. Wind-rated to 55 MPH, and still free-standing.

Tilt-Up Base Kit — Fits Every Greyline

We designed it that way on purpose: every Greyline antenna we have ever built can take a tilt base. The 2 inch base fits the current 12 to 28 ft line; a 2.25 inch base covers the legacy 28 footers. Nobody gets left out.

9 ft DX Whip and 4 ft Extension

Nine more feet of radiator on every band the antenna covers, in a package the neighbors never notice. The 4 ft extension does the same in a shorter package, and lands hardest on the low bands where length is what matters.

Add the whip to a 20, 24, or 28 footer and you have built yourself a Skyline. With a tilt base under the pole, that is an afternoon.

ATU Options: Remote or Shack — Both Work Real DX

Every Greyline DXV is designed to work with an automatic antenna tuner at either end of the coax. A remote ATU at the base — such as the LDG RT-100 — keeps the feedline at a matched 50 ohms on every band and minimizes coax loss on longer runs. A desktop shack tuner behind LMR-400 or better is equally effective for most installations. Note that all ATUs carry a reduced rating for 100 percent duty cycle digital modes; check yours before running full power on FT8 or Winlink.
