The 28' HD DX Flagpole: Fly the Flag Where the Wind Blows.

A real flagpole that is also a full HF station: every band, 160 through 6, from a single feedpoint with no radials, built on an oversized heavy-duty base. For exposed lots, open ground, coastline and northern winters, where you want the flag flying and the margin to keep it there.

Two Reasons People Choose HD

Wind today. About 80 mph with the flag flying and about 94 with it lowered (preliminary engineering estimates; PE-certified ratings to follow), against 35 and 55 for the standard 28-foot.

Height tomorrow. The heavy-duty base is a platform. Add the 9' whip and it is a Skyline 37 HD. Add a section and it is a 32' HD, then a Skyline 41 HD. Add below the feedpoint, 4 feet, 8 feet and more, and you raise the feedpoint and lift the image, the other half of a vertical's RF picture, with a longer ladder line to match. Buy the base once; grow the antenna for years.

Make It a System: Built for Wind

3" HD Tilt-Up Base — walk the HD down ahead of a big storm and back up after, and make every height change at waist level. $25 off with the HD in the cart. See the tilt →

9' DX Whip — seats in the top truck for 37 feet and more signal on 40, 80 and 160. $25 off with an antenna. See the whip →

Why the Flag Changes Everything

On a flagpole, the flag is the biggest wind load, far more than the pole itself. That is why the standard 28' DX Flagpole is rated 35 MPH with the flag flying. The HD's heavy-duty base is engineered for that load, so the flag can stay up through the kind of wind that sends a standard pole's flag down the halyard.

A Flagpole First, to Every Neighbor

Flag kit included: halyard, truck and cleat, ready for your flag. To the street it is a handsome flagpole. To you it is a full HF station on every band from 160 to 6. Our free HOA letter writes the board request in two minutes, fitted to your state.

Why No Radials, and Why It Works

A traditional quarter-wave vertical feeds at its base, so every ohm of ground resistance sits in series with the antenna and steals signal before it leaves your yard. The Greyline VDA is a vertical dipole: return current flows through the lower element, not a buried radial field, so the antenna stops depending on your soil. Frozen ground, rock and sand included. One feedpoint, every band.

The Foundation

The HD goes in on a real foundation: its sleeve set plumb in about 12 cubic feet of 3,000 psi concrete over a gravel bed for drainage, checked plumb from two directions before the concrete cures. You can pour before the antenna arrives, ahead of frozen ground, and set the pole whenever it gets there. That covers an average install in typical soil; an exposed or critical site may call for a foundation designed by a registered professional engineer. The foundation drawing is on the Assembly Documents page, with every other manual, always current.

Pair It With the 3" HD Tilt-Up Base

The 3" HD Tilt-Up Base is built alongside the antenna, with the same one-direction pivot that stops dead at vertical, so the HD comes down ahead of a big storm and goes back up after, one person, no ladder. $25 off with the HD in the cart.
