HOA Flagpole Antenna + Remote ATU Bundle | 160-6M | No Radials | Made in USA

The DXF28 + ATU Bundle - Flagship Flagpole, Tuner Included

The tallest flagpole antenna Greyline builds, paired with a weather-sealed remote tuner at the feedpoint. Twenty-eight feet of vertical dipole covering 160 through 6 meters, no radials, with the HOA Architectural Brief and flag hardware in the box. At 28 feet the geometry reaches 5/8-wave on 15 meters. Add the LDG RT-100 remote ATU and the only thing you supply is coax.

Why a Flagpole Antenna?

Most HOA CC&Rs explicitly permit residential flagpoles. The RF function is entirely internal, with no visible stubs, loading coils, or radial wires. From the street it is a flagpole, and a handsome one. The approval you need is already written into the CC&Rs. It is called a flagpole permit.

Flag-Down Protocol

The flag is the wind load. At 28 feet the flag-up rating is 35 MPH and the flag-down rating is 55 MPH, both per ASCE 7-10. US federal flag protocol already calls for lowering the flag when weather approaches, which is why the flag-down figure is the structural number for a storm. If you want this much aperture in an exposed location with no flag to lower, the DXV28 with ATU carries the 55 MPH rating permanently.

"I run 32 feet of DXV at my own station and work Africa and Asia regularly on 10 through 30 meters. This week I am adding the 9-foot whip to it, because there is still more to be had. Go as tall as your lot allows. The improvement across the bands is real, and it is the cheapest signal you will ever buy."

The Physics

Why No Radials, and Why It Works

A traditional quarter-wave vertical feeds at the current maximum at its base, which pushes maximum resistive loss directly through soil. Every ohm of ground resistance sits in series with radiation resistance, taking signal before it leaves the yard.

The Greyline VDA is a vertical dipole. It covers 160-6M from a single feedpoint with no radials. Return current flows through the lower element rather than a buried radial field, which reduces ground coupling and removes the dependency on soil conductivity. At 28 feet the geometry reaches 5/8-wave on 15 meters, the largest low-band aperture in the DXF lineup. Modeled gain figures are stated with their reference and band on the aperture page.

The physics behind the no-radial vertical dipole is established, published work. The reference shelf is cited at the foot of this page, and a deeper explainer lives in the Signal Lab.

Structural Engineering

Built for Real Weather

Every DXF is engineered to ASCE 7-10 structural standards. The flag is the dominant wind load, which is why the two columns differ. Federal practice is to lower the flag when weather threatens, so the flag-down figure is the engineering number.

Model Flag Up Flag Down Standard
DXF12 100 MPH 155 MPH ASCE 7-10
DXF16 75 MPH 115 MPH ASCE 7-10
DXF20 60 MPH 90 MPH ASCE 7-10
DXF24 50 MPH 70 MPH ASCE 7-10
DXF28 35 MPH 55 MPH ASCE 7-10

Standard 2-inch series, per ASCE 7-10. Lower the flag during approaching weather. A shorter pole wearing the 9' DX Whip out-reaches a taller bare one and holds a higher wind rating. A wind rating without a cited standard is a guess dressed as a spec.

Feed System Note

The DXF is a balanced VDA and the LDG RT-100 ships pre-configured for base-mount. All ATUs carry a reduced power rating on FT8, Winlink, and JS8Call because of the duty cycle, so check the tuner's digital rating before running full power. The antenna handles the legal limit on every band; the tuner is the only ceiling. See the Tuner and Balun Configuration Guide.

Common Questions

Before You Order, Answered.

What is the current lead time and availability?

Each antenna is hand-built to order during the current artisan production run. Current lead time is always posted on the Order Status page. Call 435-200-4902 for your actual ship date.

The bundle includes the LDG RT-100. What power does it handle?

The RT-100 mounts at the antenna base, powered over the coax, weather-sealed. It handles 125 watts across 1.8-54 MHz. Like all ATUs it carries a reduced rating on 100% duty-cycle digital modes, so check the spec for your operating style. Running higher power? Call and we will configure a higher-power ATU. The antenna itself handles the legal limit on every band and every mode; the tuner is the only ceiling.

Is 35 MPH flag-up enough for my location?

That depends on your site, and it is worth a phone call. The flag is the wind load. A full-size flag on a 28-foot pole is a large sail, which is why federal protocol calls for lowering it when weather approaches. Flag down, the DXF28 is rated 55 MPH.

Here is the part most people miss: a shorter pole with the 9' DX Whip on top gives you back the aperture and keeps a higher wind rating. A DXF24 wearing the whip stands taller than a bare DXF28 and is rated for more wind. Add the Tilt-Up Base and you can lower the whole thing before a storm. Call 435-200-4902 and we will work out the right combination for your site.

What is included, and do I need to source anything separately?

Everything to assemble, mount, tune, and satisfy an HOA is in the box. You supply coax.

- 28' DXF flagpole VDA radiator

- RF choke and precision feedline hardware

- Ground sleeve kit

- LDG RT-100 remote ATU, 125W, weather-sealed, base-mount

- USA-made flag kit hardware

- HOA Architectural Brief and Property Integrity Letter

- Assembly manual, tuning guide, 7-Year Guarantee

You supply the coax for the run to your shack.

How difficult is installation, and how long does it take?

Most operators are on the air in under an hour. Dig a post hole, build the sections in 15 to 30 minutes, drop it in, run coax, connect the ATU. All stainless hardware arrives pre-fastened. Assembly documents are at Setup and Manuals. Questions during the install? Call 435-200-4902.

What does the 7-Year Guarantee cover?

Seven years of performance coverage. If it fails under normal operating conditions, we make it right. We have replaced antennas damaged by once-in-a-decade ice storms without argument. Full terms at 7-Year Warranty Policy.

Why This Antenna Works

Every Greyline design decision traces back to named, published antenna physics: Zavrel W7SX, Kraus W8JK, Severns N6LF on ground systems, Maxwell W2DU on transmission lines, Lewallen W7EL on modeling. Not opinions. Cited works.
