How to Order a Greyline Performance Antenna System: A Check List

Checklist for Ordering a Greyline Performance Antenna System

  1. Choose your Greyline Antenna: HF Vertical Antenna or HOA DX Flagpole Antenna. Both are vertical dipoles (VDA) by design. This means, no radials are required, for either antennas above, and one is more Stealth than the other. Both are elegant.
  2. Some have height restrictions or requirements. Choose based on your desired antenna height of vertical antenna: 12-16-20-24-28+ feet. Compare them, here.
  3. Choosing your Remote Tuner: Your radio likely doesn't tune all bands therefore an outboard ATU is required. This is by design. First consider your power level needs now and in the future. Note: Some ATU offer 160-10M and others 160-6M. For the 160-10M units, some will also tune the WARC bands and 6M too. Further, notice the impedance range is wider in some tuners which may help you on 80-160M with shorter models. We have recently reported a 16' HOA Flagpole Antenna working Alaska from Kentucky on 80M. All tuners we have selected on our website tune 160-10M or 160-6M HF radio coverage, most will tune as low as 160M. This includes non Amateur Radio frequency segments such as Emergency Services Agency bands, MARS, and so on.
  4. Ground Sleeve Kit: This is included with your antenna purchase (at this time). This is the base mount which includes the entire ground sleeve kit. Most will use this method. Others consider Tilt-Mount, Tower mount, bulk head, etc.
  5. Feed-line Kit: This is included with your antenna purchase. Includes everything you need to connect your coax to the antenna system.
  6. Flag Kit (if you desire a Flagpole) is included when you purchase a DX Flagpole Antenna version. *You can add a Flag kit to a Greyline HF Vertical Antenna later if you wish.
  7. RF Choke: This is included in the Feedline kit to address CMC (common mode current).
  8. RF Choke Upgrade: Running more than 100 Watts? You may wish to add additional RF Choking. We have 500W and 3500W rated versions available in our Add-On section. Note: A second choke is helpful on the radio end (behind the radio or amplifier) to remove local QRN picked up on the coax along the way back to your radio. This is a popular choice for those wanting every dB possible on TX and RX. This too can be added later, as needed.
  9. Coax to Shack: Consider using LMR-400 or better. The Coax length between the radio and the antenna site is inconsequential and does not change the performance of the antenna. There is no need for any "matching coax length" in our system. This is essentially a vertical dipole antenna.
  10. Note on Bundles: Bundles are meant to direct your thinking towards the complete antenna system. Add each desired system element to your cart separately for the best price. (Antenna, Tuner, Accessories). Remember, accessories on not required as all that is needed is included in the antenna package.
  11. All Kits are currently included in any Antenna purchase. This includes the Ground Kit, Feed Kit, RF Choke, and Flag Kit. Again, everything you need to get on the air with Real DX confidence is in the antenna package.
  12. Shipping is free as included in the USA.
  13. DX SHIPPING is 50-75% off UPS/FedEx/DHL retail rates for us. We see  ~$150 USD to Europe. We ship from Idaho, USA.
  14. CHECK DX SHIPPING COST: go to your product on the website, Add to Cart, then scroll down to the Shipping Rate Calculator. Enter your country and possibly a Zip Code. This will report to you immediately the cost of shipping to your country.

Greyline Performance differences between the antennas:

Looking closely at the graph you'll notice as the pole increases in height there is an increase in punch or signal penetration and a lower angle of radiation, mainly on the low bands: 40-60-80-160M. On paper, this helps us understand the theory, however, in practicality we do not see much difference between the various heights of 20-24-28' which is a bonus for those in a height limitation CC&R community. See below:
Key: *80M-red | 40M-blue | 20M-green | 15M-orange
Impressive results, right? Look, even the 12-16' vertical antenna holds their own, on 80M! Unexpected good news! Notice the 20 and 28' has an even lower angle and punch for deeper DX performance.

See our Customer Reviews.

Customers report working 160-6M from even our 16' HOA Flagpole Antennas. One reports working from W4 to KL7 on 80M using his 16'er. This is possible from your QTH too.
