I anticipate being able to eventually get WAS on 7 bands (10–80). I’m about 85% there. Contacts are getting much easier compared to my doublet and I usually get a stronger signal report than I give. This is 100% digital, FT8 and now FT4.”

Kentucky to Alaska is real DX on 80 meters — and on a 16-foot pole. Eighty is a winter band: the long nights of late fall through early spring are when the low bands come alive across the Northern Hemisphere, and Jeff caught it right.
The comparison he draws is the one that matters. An attic doublet is a fine antenna to start with, but it lives indoors, low, and close to the house’s noise. Move the radiator outside, into the clear, with no radial field to lay, and contacts get easier — exactly what Jeff reports. Every Greyline works every band, 160 through 6 meters, with a tuner; the taller the pole, the more aperture on 80 and 160. Jeff is closing in on 7-band WAS from a 16-footer.
Pro operating tip: the greyline itself. Tune up from about an hour before to an hour after sunrise and sunset — the day/night terminator carries signals a long way on 40, 80, and 160. You’ll be surprised what you hear, and you may just work the farthest station you ever have. Have fun.
